Overview

We are conducting a search for a dynamic, thoughtful, and bright individual to join our client's Engineering team based in sunny and beautiful San Carlos, California.

Our client is seeking a full-time or contract Automation Controls Engineer. They make large, electrical, thermally, conductive flexible circuits. They are a fast-growing team of skilled engineers and manufacturing experts who are fundamentally redefining the way printed circuits are made. They perform research, development and manufacturing in the San Francisco Bay Area.

They are seeking an ambitious, hands-on engineer to join their team and drive the development of their innovative flex circuit manufacturing technology.

Responsibilities
  • Bottom-to-top automation controls design and implementation for new equipment and improvement of automated manufacturing equipment
    • Electrical design, Electrical component selection, electrical cabinet design and documentation (including electrical schematics) for complex automated equipment
    • PLC programming and control system design
    • HMI and SCADA design and implementation
    • Scripting for batch computation off of PLC
    • Design and implementation of automated roll-to-roll control systems
    • Servo, actuator and robotics control
    • Experience selecting and integrating machine vision systems
    • Selection and use of sensors such as thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors, pressure sensors, location/distance/presence sensors, rotary encoders
    • Electrical and controls design of material handling, process control, inspection and data collection
    • Vendor and fabricator selection and management
    • Management of electrical cabinet assembly, testing and qualification
  • Working hands on with roll-to-roll web handling and processing equipment, including drives, edge guides, brakes, and steering mechanisms
  • Working closely with Process Engineers, Technicians and Operators to meet equipment requirements and make improvements to existing systems
  • Supporting plant expansion efforts, including manufacturing data collection and management
  • 1st line of defense for engineering-level troubleshooting of faulty devices, including finding the root cause of failures and designing fixes
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or similar field
  • 3+ years of hands on experience in Automation Controls Engineering or similar field
  • Ability to safely and confidently operate and troubleshoot complex prototype equipment
  • Independent problem solver with a desire to learn new skills and develop new technology
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented mind set
  • Flexible, and able to adapt to changing requirements in a fast-paced start-up setting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong work ethic, and ability to work in a collaborative team environment
